HGO Program

"Transforming lives through faith to increase public safety by reducing recidivism"

Home for Good in Oregon (HGO) is an award-winning program of the Department of Corrections based on a vast statewide network of faith and community-based volunteers and organizations working together.  Starting with applications received from offenders wanting faith and community support following release, HGO provides information, support and supervision through its 45 trained volunteer community chaplains and hundreds of trained community volunteers and re-entry partner organizations so that faith and community-based support and services can be effective used to insure successful transition of offenders from prison to the community.  Make the decision, today, to be come a part of the HGO and do your part in creating a healthier and safer community.

HGO Training
Being an approved ODOC community volunteer starts with completing community-based training.  Scheduled trainings in your area are listed on this page as well as information for registering.  Prior to attending the training it is necessary to complete two self-paced modules and return the chapter self-tests.  Following the training it is necessary to complete the HGO Volunteer Application which is then submitted to the OCOC for processing.  If you are approved you will receive a letter from ODOC confirming your new approved community volunteer status.  If you have any questions contact Carmen Ortiz at 503-945-0929 or Carmen.J.Ortiz@doc.state.or.us
