More Douglas County Houses Qualify For State-Sponsored 5.75% Loan

Salem, Oregon, (July 5, 2002) - Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS) and RMLS™, a multiple listing service serving Realtors®, jointly announced today that Douglas County’s existing home purchase price limits for OHCS’ Residential Loan Program have been increased. "Thanks to the cooperation with RMLS™ we were able to establish a new existing home purchase price limits for Douglas County" said Bob Repine, OHCS Director. "These higher limits mean more homes and more families in Douglas County will be able to access the state’s below-market rate home loan program which has a record low rate right now of 5.75%!". "RMLS™ was pleased to assist OHCS in obtaining the data necessary to raise the program’s purchase price limits. Realtors® throughout Oregon are committed to helping low and moderate income families realize their dream of buying their own home and this project moved that important cause forward," Gail Hare, Operations Manager for RMLS™.

– Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS) announces the appointment of Nancy Schlangen as the new Chair of the State Housing Council. "We are very fortunate to have Nancy’s leadership and expertise on housing issues in Oregon. Her knowledge and experience in housing will help carry the Council forward in addressing housing issues fairly and effectively," said Bob Repine, OHCS Director. Governor Kitzhaber made her appointment effective July 1, 2002.

Salem, Oregon (July 19, 2002) – Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS) will hold a public hearing on August 19, 2002 at 4:00 p.m. for the review of Oregon’s 2003 Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) State Plan. The plan contains the guidelines for program operation designed to provide services through community-based agencies to help LIEAP eligible households reduce their energy burden.

- Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS) announced today that Oregon will receive $1,636,835 in Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) emergency funds from the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). OHCS delivered these funds today to local Community Action Agencies, service programs and partners to help more low-income Oregonians with their energy costs.

- Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS) is soliciting nominations for the 2002 Excellence in Community Service Awards.
The Oregon Housing and Community Services Excellence in Community Services Awards recognize outstanding contributions in providing services to Oregonians. "In 2001, we took an opportunity to review the OHCS Excellence Award programs. As a result, we believe we have come up with a stronger awards program that will award the ‘best of the best’ for their contributions towards meeting the daily needs of lower income Oregonians," said Bob Repine, OHCS Director. "Examples of outstanding efforts can be found throughout Oregon. With our better defined categories, we hope to recognize the remarkable achievements of individuals and organizations who continue to make an enormous impact on their communities."

State Approves Funding for Five Affordable Housing Developments

– Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS) announces the funding of five housing developments — two developments for elderly tenants, two for low-income families and one for people recovering from addictions and ex-offenders. These projects will maintain 293 units of affordable housing. "Our staff and partners have worked very hard to make these developments possible. Though there is still great need out there, we’re pleased to see more developers interested in creating and preserving affordable housing," said Bob Repine, OHCS Director.

Portland, Oregon, (October 14, 2002) - At Saturday’s African-American Home Buyer Fair, Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS), Portland Development Commission (PDC) and Portland Housing Center (PHC) launched a new homebuyer program available in Portland called Home 24. "We are excited to launch the Home 24 program because it is an unprecedented two year interest rate guarantee showing just how serious we are about helping low and moderate income families overcome the obstacles to buy their first home" said Bob Repine, OHCS Director.

State Home Loan Rate Drops Below 5% For The First Time

- Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS) announced today that it has lowered the interest rate for its Residential Loan Program to a record low fixed rate of 4.95%. "Our record low rate is intended to put homeownership within reach of as many of Oregon’s first-time homebuyers as possible" said Bob Repine, OHCS Director. "I hope first-time homebuyers take full advantage of the exceptional low interest rates currently being provided so they can buy a home of their own."

Sunnyside Apartments in McMinnville will provide 15 units of affordable housing for individuals with serious and persistent mental illness. Johnson Creek Apartments in Clackamas County will provide 52 units of affordable housing for low-income families.
