Salem, Oregon (November 23, 2004) - Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS) announces the award of a Residential Energy Assistance Challenge Option (REACH) Program Grant of $999,984 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. These funds will assist eligible individuals who are residents of manufactured and mobile home parks or multi-family housing within five-targeted counties or the three participating Community Action Agencies (CAA). Most of the residents in these facilities are seniors, disabled and families with children under six and generally represent a higher rate of poverty than the population at large.

The goal of the report is to provide policymakers and people working to end poverty with good, local data, and statewide perspectives on the problem of poverty. This new report, written and researched by the department’s policy, planning and research team, will be released at the Community Action Directors of Oregon’s Poverty Conference on November 15, 2004 in Seaside, Oregon.

The agency’s Farmworker Housing Development Account (FWHDA) currently has $150,000 available to provide grants or loans to construct, acquire and/or rehabilitate on the farm housing for low- or very low-income farmworkers.

Salem, Oregon (July 29, 2004) – Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS) proudly announces that the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting was awarded to its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the fiscal year ended June 2003 by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada. The Financial Management Division was designated by OHCS as being primarily responsible for preparing the award-winning document and accordingly was presented the award of financial reporting achievement.

Together, these projects will provide 439 units of affordable housing for Oregonians and add nearly $47 million in economic value to the State’s Economy. These units are targeted for low-income individuals, families, elderly, developmentally disabled, ex-offenders, survivors of domestic violence, homeless and farmworkers.

Salem, Oregon, (March 24, 2004) - Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS) announced today it increased the county purchase price and household income limits for its Residential Loan Program. The state-sponsored home loan program, also known as the “Oregon Bond Loan Program,” is currently offering qualified homebuyers a record low interest rate of 4.50% for a thirty year fixed rate loan. “More homes and households than ever before qualify for our program’s record low rate putting home ownership within reach for more low and moderate income households” said Bob Repine, OHCS Director.

Salem, Oregon (January 23, 2004) – Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS) announces that they are now offering cash assistance to help eligible homebuyers fund their downpayment and closing costs to purchase their first home. This new home loan option is called the “CashAdvantage Home Loan.” It provides eligible homebuyers cash assistance equal to 3% of their first mortgage amount along with a low, fixed-interest rate on their home loan.

Salem, Oregon (January 8, 2004) – Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS) announces the receipt of $1,988,907 in federal Continuum of Care (CoC) grant funds to help the homeless in rural Oregon. The Rural Oregon Continuum of Care (ROCC) has successfully applied for these funds for the past three years. This award represents a $301,645 increase over last year’s award.
