Governor's Recommeded Budget Supports Housing and Community Services Programs
Salem, Oregon(December 6, 2006) - The Governor’s recommended budget for the 2007-09 biennium includes funding for several key Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS) programs. Governor’s recommended budget for OHCS is $2.2 billion in total funds and will allow OHCS to continue all of its programs.

Weatherization Funds Help Low-Income Oregonians and Benefits Local Economy
Salem, Oregon (November 29, 2006) - Low-income Oregonians will benefit from a $4.5 million grant to weatherize homes and build new, energy-efficient housing through the Oregon Housing and Community Services Department. The grant funds come from Oregon Department of Justice settlements with El Paso Corporation and Duke Energy companies.

State Approves Housing Funding Generating Over $157 Million in Economic Activity Across the State
Salem, Oregon (November 7, 2006) – Fourteen low-income housing projects across the state will receive funding through the Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS) Fall 2006 funding cycle. These combined funding and tax credit programs will amount to nearly $92.8 million in total project costs to create or rehabilitate 583 units of affordable housing and generate approximately $157 million in economic activity throughout the state’s economy.

Funds Available for Farmworker Housing
Salem, Oregon(October 24, 2006) - Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS) announces a funding opportunity for farmworker housing. The agency’s Farmworker Housing Tax Credit program currently has available $880,000 in 2006 Tax Credits to construct, acquire and/or rehabilitate housing for low or very low income farmworkers.

Report on Poverty Describes the Problem at the Local Level
Salem, Oregon (October 10, 2006) – In 2005, 22 percent of Oregon children under the age of 5 lived in poverty, and 56 percent of families headed by single mothers with children younger than age 5 lived in poverty.
Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS) new Report on Poverty 2006 provides both a national and a local perspective on poverty. Benefiting from recent data provided by the American Community Survey, the new report describes ongoing effects of the 2001 recession, high unemployment, rising energy costs, and housing price inflation.

Housing Advocates Recognized for Excellence
Salem, Oregon (May 17, 2006) - Rick Crager, Acting Director of Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS) has announced the recipients of the 2006 Excellence in Housing Awards. Bob Gillespie, Housing Division Administrator, presented the awards during an evening awards event in Canby on May 12, 2006. The awards were presented for outstanding achievement during the past two years to promote, sponsor, finance and develop affordable housing in Oregon. An impartial panel selected the award recipients based on cost-effective production, achieving affordable rent levels, innovative financing, attractive design and architecture, and inclusion of tenant services or amenities.

OHCS Receives Award for Excellence in Financial Reporting for Eleventh Consecutive Year
Salem, Oregon (May 17, 2006) – Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS) proudly announces that the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting was awarded for the OHCS Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the fiscal year ended June 2005. The award was given by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada. OHCS designated its Financial Management Division as being primarily responsible for preparing the award-winning document and accordingly was presented with the award.

Higher Income Limits Benefit Local Homebuyers
Salem, Oregon, (April 24, 2006) – Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS) announced today it increased household income limits for its Residential Loan Program for all of Oregon’s 36 counties. The state-sponsored, first-time home loan program, also known as the “Oregon Bond Loan Program,” offers qualified homebuyers below-market interest rates on thirty-year fixed rate loans. For the first time in the history of the program, OHCS has designated specific regions of the state as high cost housing areas, allowing even a higher income limit to apply. Regions that are specifically designated include the following counties: Clackamas, Columbia, Deschutes, Jackson, Multnomah, Washington and Yamhill.

Oregon IDA Tax Credits Expand for 2006
Salem, Oregon (March 2, 2006) – More low-income Oregonians and participating Oregon taxpayers will benefit from an expansion of the state’s 2006 Individual Development Account tax credits. The pool of IDA credits will grow to a maximum of $3 million in 2006, up from $1.5 million in 2005.

Rural Oregon Continuum of Care Receives Over $1.4 Million to Help the Homeless
Salem, Oregon (January 12, 2006) - The US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) released their Continuum of Care (COC) funding announcement on December 20, 2005. Oregon Housing and Community Services (OHCS) received $1,461,917 in federal grant funds to help the homeless in rural Oregon. The Rural Oregon Continuum of Care (ROCC) has successfully applied for these funds for the past five years.
