Asset Building in Oregon
Using public policy and financial incentives to encourage development of that which is known to positively influence one's capacity for thriving and resilience throughout life.

"I just bought a house!" says Julie, who became a homeowner with help from the Oregon Individual Development Account (IDA) initiative delivered by the United Way of the Columbia/Willamette and the Portland Housing Center. "I was afraid of failing somehow," remembers Julie. "Owning a home seemed too daunting, and such a huge responsibility. After the 'ABCs of Homebuying' and the 'Financial Fitness' class, I was able to fulfill the requirements for the United Way IDA program. Portland Housing Center made it so easy. They practically held my hand every step of the way."
